The ship that appears in the sky is immediately noticeable and yet noticed by no one. The probe into the planet's network goes similarly undetected, as does the approach to what the determine is the location of Kaiba Seto: they do not wish to be obstructed in their journey and so, with their superior technology and programming, they are not.
Harder to hide, of course, is the touchdown of a bizarre and completely unknown craft on the Kaiba Corp helicopter landing pad, but Legion is unbothered by this: they had intended for Kaiba Seto to notice them.
Leaving anything that might be percieved as a weapon inside, they step out and wait.
Inside the building is pure chaos when the craft has the audacity to land on the top of the KC headquarters landing pad. The news travels swiftly up the chain of command as various employees puzzle over just how something that large could approach unnoticed and whose job is going to be in jeopardy because of it. A detail or two of men in black suits are already en route to the roof when Kaiba emerges from his office. Saying he was miffed would have been putting it lightly, but also he's intrigued. He ignores his security guards when they encourage him not to make a personal appearance until the threat can be accurately assessed.
"If they're good enough to foil our systems then I want to see just who it is I'm dealing with for myself."
That does not prevent the stubborn ceo from being accompanied. When he reaches the door that will lead him to the helipad, he gives the door enough force to swing wide open before stepping out himself. The wind at this altitude flips the edges of his coat in an aesthetically pleasing and dramatic fashion. Swiping an arm through the air sharply beside him he begins to speak before he has spotted the loan figure.
"Funny, I don't remember granting anyone clearance to land- just what do you think you're do.... ing?"
Originally his words were filled with the smug satisfaction of one that was above reproach and was about to educate some ambitious fool why you don't trifle with a powerful businessman but his bravado tapered off when he saw what was standing before him. Weapons or no weapons (and all artwork aside) the mechanized being possessed an intimidating façade.
"A ... robot? Or a very detail oriented cosplayer.... either way, what I said before stands. Whoever is behind this better have a good excuse."
If Kaiba expected to intimidate anyone with his display... well, really, given that they already had the audacity to just straight up land here, he really shouldn't have. But if he did, well, he's gonna be disappointed. The robot seems as calm as ever as it holds up its hands in a gesture of placation and surrender, and one might get the impression that it's more of a courtsey than anything else.
That's not to say Legion isn't nervous-they're often nervous when dealing with unpredictable organics-but they're sure as Hell good at not showing it. Also, they're used to Kaiba being like this.
"Greetings, Kaiba-Seto." They raise a headflap and glance downward at the hole in their chest. Does he really think a 'cosplayer' could pull this off? Not that they're entirely surprised: Kaiba-Seto is often sceptical, and he does not remember this unit. "Excuses are limited: perhaps an offer of schematics will suffice as apology?" Not their schematics, of course: the creation of new Geth is fraught with ethical concerns. But ships, engines, weapons, technology? Yeah sure. The Geth already believed in freewill over destiny, and after murdering Enso's god of history and fate, they care about things like not dumping super advanced knowledge that might disrupt the timeline and development of an entire alternate universe even less.
It wasn't just about intimidation, though that would have been an added bonus, but it was also about asserting dominance over this metaphorical arena and clearly displaying that he wasn't prone to cowardice. Seto Kaiba had plenty of enemies that spanned the globe and he wasn't about to start backing down anytime soon and letting any of them move in to the vacuum his departure would leave. For now, he maintained his stance, and gazed toward their visitor with a scrutinizing eye. His security on the other hand, fanned out all around the helipad, before informing the intruder that he was in fact surrounded and he shouldn't try anything. The show of goodwill did little to ease their anxiety.
It was certainly impossible for this organic to get any kind of read from what he was seeing. Though he was also currently under the impression that machines were incapable of experiencing anything akin to emotional responses. At least, not yet. If he didn't invent it- it tended not to exist though part of that was his ego talking.
"Greetings? That's what you have to say..?" Noting that this guest hadn't supplied a name yet. Was this all leading up to some sort of a challenge from someone that currently wished to remain anonymous? And, no. He didn't really think a cosplayer would be capable of this- but it was the most insulting suggestion he could come up with on the fly. "How about starting with, who sent you?" Even at this distance, he could tell there was something unique about this unit, he just didn't know what that was.
Oh, but this robot did know the right sort of things to say. Still, he didn't want to appear too eager. "You came all this way to offer to share schematics? You'll have to forgive me if I find that highly suspicious- and I do hope you realize that it wouldn't be an even exchange." No one was going to get their mitts on his precious designs. He considered briefly that perhaps the offered intel was already under patent protection, or some other such loophole. It would be idiotic to give them up just like that. Just what sort of craft was that, anyway? "So what is it that you want? I'm a busy man."
Legion has no need for or interest in dominance struggles and power plays, so Kaiba pretty much wins that by default. They watch the security goons calmly, headflaps shifting and briefly fluttering, and make no moves to attack or defend themselves.
"This unit is an independent operator. Our designation is Legion." A subtle assertion: they are not a tool or puppet but a person making their own choices.
As for motive...
"We have no need for your technology, though your holograms are in some ways more advanced than our own." They show no shame or reluctance in admitting that, and continue after a few seconds. "We seek alliance."
Winning by default, his least favorite way. At least this wasn't a tournament or that sort of outcome truly would have been unacceptable. For now the guards just maintain position but they are armed, and trained on Legion's position in case the robot steps out of line.
"An independent operator.. huh. Didn't expect that." Still could be a ruse. "Well, Legion. You wanted my attention and you have it." Or in other words, talk.
The flat dismissal of most of what Kaiba Corp had to offer was like a backhanded insult, but it was lessened by the hologram comment. Once Legion had finished, there was still something that wasn't lining up. "... An alliance? Against what?" If his technology was so inferior to whatever could be found on that craft then why come here seeking help? His eyes briefly broke contact as he gazed across the roof.
Poor Kaiba, denied the fun of socially beating someone into submission.
Their headflaps ripple. They know that Kaiba does not remember. They know he is unlikely to believe them. Lying is likely to be discovered and will undermine any attempts at alliance. An expression of a desire for friendship is unlikely to be accepted outright-he has already failed to recognize that this was their intent.
...Fortunately, he saves them from having to come up with a solution quickly by suggesting relocation.
There would be another opportunity to do so later, against a different opponent.
Kaiba had always been a skeptic, both in his own dimension and in the void. That wasn't something that was likely to change. He could however learn from his mistakes and adapt. Being able to do so was imperative to survival in any sort of environment. The memories, if they were there were still buried by whatever supernatural force prevented them from being instantly recalled upon departure.
The security detail, still fanned out followed their boss dutifully back inside. A few were right behind Kaiba, a few followed behind Legion, the rest stayed with the spacecraft eying it dubiously. The gaming and leisure technology mogul selected the nearest conference room for this most peculiar meeting. Punching a few buttons on the telephone, he ordered some coffee be brought up. "Heh, you don't need anything do you?" When the call ended he motioned his guest to take a seat wherever the machine wanted.
Legion, for their part, is a perfectly well behaved guest. They follow Kaiba to the conference room without protest or incident, silent except for the gentle whirring as they glance at various parts of their surroundings and as their headflaps shift and ripple. There are a number of questions that they have: is his brother doing well? Is Yugi? But they know the first will make him suspicious and he is unlikely to answer the latter.
Instead, they turn their attention to the answers they will give him.
"We do not." They confirm his suspicions, then take a glance at the available seating - is it likely to support their weight? It looks structurally sound, so after a moment they will sit.
Despite their obvious size and power they fold up in such a way as to look unobtrusive and utterly nonthreatening when they sit. They almost give off an impression of being ...small.
Although Legion is doing a masterful job in attempting to seem both non-threatening and non-combative it's not enough for the guards around them, which watch the machine with eagle-eyed precision behind their shades. The conference room affords more room to spread out, and Kaiba for one is glad to no longer have his own men breathing down his neck as he takes up position at the head of the table. This poses to be one-of-those-days so the coffee will be a much needed infusion of energy. Still, he supposed it beat the monotonous line-up he already had scheduled. It was a wise decision on his guest's part not to start with anything too personal as it would have been met defensively.
"Thought not," but like a dutiful host he had to at least offer. The sight of this advanced technology situated on the rather mundane looking chair was almost comical, but Kaiba kept the smirking to a minimum. Once he seated himself, he leaned on his elbows, and threaded his fingers together as he slightly leaned forward.
They consider what information it is best to share. They know that Kaiba Seto will not believe them if they say he has met them before, but he is also unlikely to accept a lack of explanation, and they do not wish to lie.
Perhaps, a subset of their programs suggests, a sufficient explanation can be given without divulging their past alliance. Their headflaps ripple rhythmically as they consider. Outwardly, it takes only seconds to come to a consensus:
"We did not originate on this planet." A pause, a fluttering of headflaps. "We are seeking contact with individuals on other worlds who are judged likely to be amenable. You may examine the capabilities of our transport to verify." It's a spaceship. A spaceship capable of interstellar and interplanetary travel... albeit a very tiny one. Legion doesn't exactly need things like food or air.
